Are you loving parenthood so far? Being a parent is not without challenges, but it’s all worth it. One day, you see yourself shopping for baby strollers and baby bath accessories in Malaysia, and then the next day you are worrying about your kid’s flu symptoms. Being a mom is hard, yet would never think twice on having more children! Would you? Well, that is a main concern for many mothers.

Many women often wonder about the right time to get pregnant again. According to a recent study in Canada, 12 to 18 months of pregnancy spacing is ideal. The period between pregnancies is still contested, though, most especially when it comes to factors like the age of the mother.

That period of time between the first pregnancy’s end, and the conception of the new baby is called “interpregnancy interval.”

What is a short or long interpregnancy interval? This is typically defined as lesser than 18 months to 2 years. For long interpregnancy intervals, it varies a lot. Some say more than 2, 3 or 5 years-it all depends on the study.

Based on a Canadian research, the risk of moms having severe complications varied between 1 in 400 to 1 in 100. It all depends on the mother’s age, and interpregnancy interval.

The risks of stillbirth, or severe child complications varied from under 2% to 3%. All in all, at least 97% of infants, and 99% of moms didn’t have major issues.

The differences in risk complications appear to be related to interpregnancy intervals.

Several women who have short interpregnancy intervals also have qualities that make them more at risk at complications to begin with, like being less educated or younger.

For many women, specifically those who are in perfect health with previously uncomplicated birth and pregnancy, their wishes on family spacing must be the primary focus of their decision-making process.
